Jonathan Sommer Jarness specialises in environmental and planning law and advises public authorities as well as public and private enterprises on all aspects of environmental and planning law.

Jonathan has gained considerable experience with both Danish and EU environmental law, including, among other things, obtaining permits and performing quality assurance on such permits, compliance with regulatory requirements, enforcement in respect of illegal actions and private law liability in public law cases.

Jonathan is an experienced adviser of public enterprises and authorities in connection with large infrastructure projects, including renewable energy projects, advising on legal issues in respect of environmental assessments of plans, programmes and specific projects as well as nature and species protection. Jonathan is also highly experienced advising utility companies on wastewater issues and waste management companies on waste legislation, such as producer liability for electronic waste and batteries.

In addition, Jonathan is an experienced litigator in complaints cases and court proceedings concerning public law matters, including public polluter liability under the Danish Soil Contamination Act and the Danish Environmental Protection Act, but also cases of a more private law nature on, for example, the authorities' enforcement of the duty to return property as well as actions for damages for soil and groundwater contamination.
