Partner Johannes Grove Nielsen has just been appointed new chairman of The International Bar Association's (IBA) Maritime and Transport Law Committee.
For the next two years, Johannes Grove Nielsen will be heading the IBA Maritime and Transport Law Committee. The Committee is one of the oldest and most well-established committees under the auspices of IBA and counts more than 650 members worldwide.
"I feel very proud, but at the same time I am also very humble about the appointment. My appointment is a huge honour and, I suppose, also a very good illustration of Denmark's status within international shipping", says Johannes Grove Nielsen who, on a national as well as international scale, is considered one of Denmark's leading legal advisers within shipping.
The Committee is, among other things, known for being the meeting place of leading international maritime and transport law lawyers, coming together, establishing relations and discussing the most important current legal issues within maritime and transport law.
"Shipping is a conventional business, and this also applies to the law. Some rules date back thousands of years, but it is essential to be fast-moving and consistently on top of development. As an example, BIMCO is just now completing the first standard contract for autonomous vessels", says Johannes.
For Johannes and his co-chair Corina Song of Allen & Gledhill in Singapore, 2021 and 2022 will otherwise focus on collaboration and diversity:
"We have extended collaboration with CMI, IMO and UNCITRAL in the past year, and we also introduced a completely new position of Diversity Officer within the Committee in 2020, and we are well under way", Johannes says.
We congratulate Johannes on the appointment.
