As a counterbalance to progress and growth, environmental and nature protection as well as planning are frequently challenged when, for example, urban projects are developed and enterprises are expanded. Complexity often becomes the pivotal point when the damage is done, and the authorities are to enforce the law.

We are highly specialised in environmental and planning law, and we advise private and public enterprises as well as authorities on both Danish and international environmental and nature protection as well as planning. Our team is made up of highly qualified and experienced environmental law advisers working closely together with specialists from all relevant practice areas. We work together with, among others, experienced legal advisers within fields, such as Public Law & Administration, Infrastructure and Energy & Supply.

We are also members of several networks, among others, the Confederation of Danish Industry's Environmental Committee, and sit on the board of the ATV Foundation for Soil and Groundwater (ATV Jord og Grundvand), the board of Danish Environmental Lawyers and the technical council of DAKOFA - Waste and Resource Network Denmark. We also hold the chairmanship in the sustainable development committee of the National Association for Building and the waste law network of DAKOFA. As a result, we have in-depth industry knowledge, and our understanding of environmental law always matches the reality within which our clients operate.

We are also responsible for the environmental law reporting on rules and judgments in Magazine for the Environment (Tidsskrift for miljø) published by DJØF Publishing, and we also cooperate with Karnov Group on the publication of Envionmental Law, 9th edition.

Notable practitioners
Håkun Djurhuus is highlighted by sources as an "expert," particularly with regard to environmental law aspects. He has experience in arbitration as well as litigation before the Danish Supreme Court, and represented the Danish Agriculture and Food Council in mediation against several Danish municipalities relating to the prohibition of the use of pesticides.

Bech-Bruun runs the gamut of environmental law work, with the highly experienced Håkun Djurhuus and Jacob Brandt at the helm. Djurhuus' recent mandates include advising Femern on its construction of a tunnel between the Danish island of Lolland and the German island of Fehmarn; while Brandt acted for the Municipality of Aarhus on the drafting of possible changes to the Danish Planning Act, which conflicted with the region's need for housing. Per Hemmer is also a key figure and assisted Nord Stream 2 with its project involving a gas pipeline connecting Russian gas reserves to Germany via the Baltic Sea. Hanne Mølbeck is noted for her infrastructure expertise; she recently worked with the Copenhagen Metro on the preparatory elements of its development of a new line extending out to the harbour area of Nordhavn.
