Launch of the first GC Powerlist of in-house counsel in the Nordic region
The Legal 500, the leading global legal directory, has published its first GC Powerlist in the Nordic region. The GC Powerlist: Nordics recognises in-house lawyers that have demonstrated legal innovation, quality and excellence. The Powerlist publication was launched at an exclusive event at the Bech-Bruun offices in Copenhagen.
On the evening of Thursday 19th November 2015, The Legal 500 launched its first collection of influential general counsel across the Nordic region. The publication was launched in collaboration with Bech-Bruun at an event gathering all general counsel nominated for inclusion in the final list.
The GC Powerlist: Nordics features a collection of the most influential and successful in-house lawyers across Denmark, Norway, Sweden and Finland. Through a comprehensive research process, which includes nominations, background research and interviews, the most deserving general counsel are chosen to appear on the list. The final Powerlist outlines the steps that the in-house lawyers have taken to help transform their teams, their businesses and the industry as a whole.
“What was particularly noticeable in the Nordic version of the Powerlist is just how instrumental general counsel now are in strategic discussion within their company or industry. There are brilliant examples of GCs that have developed outstanding technical solutions to complex issues or created innovative structures to ensure that the in-house function is driving the whole business forward,” says Dominic Williams, Head of Research for the Client Intelligence Unit at The Legal 500.
Separate studies, conducted independently by Bech-Bruun and The Legal 500, both found that general counsel are increasingly faced with new and additional demands from their businesses. The Bech-Bruun study shows that almost 50% of Danish respondents are more involved in the management’s strategic discussions now than two years ago.
Simon Evers Kalsmose-Hjelmborg, managing partner at Bech-Bruun says, “Over recent years there has been a significant increase in the number of in-house lawyers in Denmark. The increasing importance of the role has allowed general counsel to tackle potential challenges earlier, before they become actual problems. There is no doubt that general counsel are a crucial asset to their companies and also in regard to professionalising relationships with external lawyers. We have entered into a country partnership with The Legal 500 on the GC Powerlist: Nordics as we wish to recognise the vital work performed by the general counsel every day.”
The GC Powerlist: Nordics includes renowned general counsel such as Flemming Pristed from Danske Bank, Mette Rosholm from DSB and Peter Schøtt Knudsen from ECCO.
