Bech-Bruun takes the award ’Denmark M&A Legal Adviser of the Year’
The recognised international intelligence and news agency Mergermarket has just named Bech-Bruun leading law firm in Denmark within M&A. The granting of this award comes after three years in the lead as the law firm having advised on the highest number of M&A transactions in Denmark.
In granting Bech-Bruun the title ’Denmark M&A Legal Adviser of the Year’, Mergermarket, among other things, points to Bech-Bruun’s ability to handle the very large transactions. Especially the advice granted to A.P. Møller-Mærsk on its sale of Dansk Supermarked was used as an example of this. In addition, Bech-Bruun has stood out by having for the past three years taken the lead as the law firm having advised on the highest number of M&A transactions in Denmark.
"We are very pleased and proud about the international recognition of our work. M&A transactions is a complicated field of expertise and no matter the size of the transaction, case management is a key element in ensuring that the client gets the best possible assistance and that at a fair price. Our leading position in the Danish M&A market is the result of many years of specialisation. And at the same time, our size makes it possible for us to always staff each case with lawyers at just the right levels. We are naturally very pleased to see that our strategic efforts in the M&A area have yielded results", says Jacob Hjortshøj, M&A partner and chairman of the executive committee of Bech-Bruun.
Each year, Bech-Bruun advises on some of the largest and most significant M&A transactions in the market. In 2012, we advised on the largest ever consolidation in Danish history within the energy industry with Energinet.dk’s acquisition of ten transmission companies. In 2013, we assisted NorgesGruppen on its acquisition of a 55% shareholding of Dagrofa, including the supermarket chain companies Spar Danmark A/S and SuperBest A.m.b.a. In 2014, we advised, among others, A.P. Møller-Mærsk on its sale of Dansk Supermarked and Færch Plast on its sale to the private equity fund EQT.
The most recent quarterly statistics from Mergermarket also show general improvement in the M&A market. For the first three quarters of the year, the total value of the transactions conducted in Europe is 11.4% above the level for 2013. And the value of each transaction has also seen an increase on the levels of the past years. The increase in activity has especially been seen within the life science & medico, energy and financial sectors.
