Bech-Bruun opens school in Ethiopia with Save the Children, Denmark
Bech-Bruun's Claus Barrett Christensen and Søren Nørbæk have recently returned from Ethiopia, where they participated in the opening ceremony of the school which Bech-Bruun, in collaboration with Save the Children, has been involved in building.
Claus and Søren held speeches and participated in the festivities together with 250 engaged children, government officials and village representatives.
Bech-Bruun has, in recent years, collaborated with Save the Children on education and school attendance, as part of our participation in the UN Global Compact. These focus areas are deliberate, as education and knowledge are part of our core business principles and form the foundation for our development. We wish, therefore, to support education in Ethiopia and give young people the opportunity to exploit their potential, so we too can help lay the foundations for their development.
We have built two schools in collaboration with Save the Children, firstly in Angola and subsequently in Ethiopia. Save the Children's school project in Angola was concluded in 2010. The final status report on the sponsorship program in Angola in which we participated concluded that the program has succeeded in securing the attendance of 4,995 children in elementary school, as well as securing that 1,550 children, who never attended school before, now have access to schooling. This is possible due to the construction of four new schools. Our financial sponsorship has also been employed to educate teachers, which has resulted in the improvement of the quality of teaching provided to 31,500 children.
