Greenland is the world’s largest island, situated east of Canada and northwest of Iceland. Greenland’s land area is 2.2 million square kilometres, but 1.8 million square kilometres are covered by the Greenland ice sheet. The northernmost extremity of Greenland is Cape Morris Jessup, which is also the northernmost land area in the world, situated less than 730 kilometres from the North Pole.
