The Faroe Islands are an autonomous province of Denmark, with approximately 48,000 inhabitants. The legislative and administrative competence concerning mineral resources in the Faroese subsoil has been transferred from Denmark to the Faroese Home Rule authorities. So far there is no oil production in the Faroe Islands.
