Since the mid-1980s, domestic oil production and exploration activity in Denmark and in the other parts of the Danish Kingdom (Greenland and the Faroe Islands) has increased dramatically. In recent years, the Greenland government has awarded six licences in the West Greenland licensing round and two licences in an open-door procedure concerning an area between 60ºN and 63ºN.
